Devin Alexander grew up as the only day human in a world surrounded by night humans who drank blood, sometimes his blood. He spent his life training toward one goal: the protection of one of those blood drinkers, Arianna Grace. But what is he supposed to do when the blue-eyed girl of the legends doesn’t need him anymore? What does his life mean then? How is a guy supposed to move on when the girl he has yearned over for a decade has chosen someone else?

Before he can even start to figure out his new life without Arianna, Devin has to deal with another problem. He needs to take care of some unfinished business with a night human he has known for less than a month, but with whom he is magically bound.

Vanessa McKinny has promised that she knows a way to undo the spell she placed on Devin to save his life. Devin would do anything to break the bond to be free of her, even if it means traveling to the sidhe village, a place inhabited by a race of night humans that has not had a day human visitor in more than a hundred years. If he doesn’t want to get stuck, he must work with Nessa to find a way to break the bond. Only then can Devin have time to get back to finding his new goal in life, unless he discovers that his path lies with the sidhe.

The Day Human Prince trilogy is a spin-off to The Blue Eyes trilogy. This time, the story focuses on two of the loved characters in the series: Nessa and Devin. If you want to learn more of the story before The Day Human Prince, I highly suggest that you read first former. It contains some elements that makes the second series clearer.

Ms. McMichael is one of my favorite authors that can truly weave words and create worlds and creatures magnificently.  The world of the sidhe, the night and day humans holds tales and characters that you definitely must read.

Nessa is a sidhe, a powerful race of night humans. Bearing the consequence of her brother's action, she is now bound to a day human, Devin. But Devin is anything but a typical day human. Having lived almost all his life under the care of the night humans, he has developed the skills necessary to battle the bad ones. Now that the bond has fulfilled its intended purpose for them, the only way that Nessa and Devin can unbind from each other is if they seek the secrets of the sidhe. The problem is, is Nessa ready to share the secrets of her kind with Devin? Is she willing to risk him and the feelings she might be developing for him?

Devin and Nessa reminds me of friends that tease each other to their ends and actually enjoy doing so. That is why, seeing them grow closer makes them more endearing. I like how the love between them flourished and not the usual instant love that usually happens between characters.

The story behind the sidhe is enthralling as well. Sidhe, like any night human, crave blood. Yet, they do not need it. It just makes them heal faster. Their power comes from nature and that in itself is interesting. They remind me of earth fairies whose powers also come from nature as well. And yet, that is not the only thing about them. There's more to their story. They have a hierarchy, jealousy between the powerful sidhe families that adds complexity to Devin and Nessa's quest.

What I truly love about this book is how she weaved every detail seamlessly; the characters, the plot and the setting into a wonderful story. It's the type of book that would keep you turning the pages and still wanting more when you reach the end.

I SAY...

Originally from Wisconsin, B. Kristin currently resides in Ohio with her husband, two small children, and three cats. When not doing the mom thing of chasing kids, baking cookies, and playing outside, she is using her PhD in biology as a scientist. In her free time she is currently hard at work on multiple novels. Every day is a new writing adventure. She is a fan of all YA/NA fantasy and science fiction.
